Full spectrum CBD oil vs CBD isolate
Full spectrum CBD products are made from a concentrated solvent extract of hemp flowers. They contain CBD as well as other cannabinoids and compounds present in the hemp plant. These can include CBG, CBC, THCA, CBDA, less well-known cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, vitamins and fatty acids. The benefits of full spectrum hemp extracts rests on a theory developed by Raphael Mechoulam (the chemist that first isolated THC), that suggests that the different compounds found in the cannabis plant may work synergistically to create a greater effect than any one compound on its own. This is known as the ‘entourage effect’.
CBD isolate is CBD in its most concentrated form. It is 99% pure CBD, isolated from a concentrated and purified hemp extract in a process that removes all other plant compounds. An isolate is odorless and tasteless and can be used on its own, mixed with an edible or topical oil, used in food, added to an E-liquid or combined with other plant compounds to make a unique cannabinoid product. A CBD oil made from the isolate is just the CBD isolate in an edible solution. It does not contain any of the other cannabinoids, terpenes or flavonoids present in the hemp plant unless they have been separately added.
